The perception of stress is a key determinant of biological aging for caregivers, as we’ve seen in the column The Caregiver and the Telomere. Support groups and help from the community appear to be important keys to reducing caregiver’s perceptions of stress.
Next, make a list of attributes concerning to your pet. The ones listed below pertain to their relevance to the boarding facility itself and it’s available accommodations. In “Part Two” of this article, I cover everything that goes on inside the boarding facility such as certifications, staffing, medications, etc.
The happiness of your pet will depend on any number of things. Some of the following tips may or may not apply to your pet. Just find the ones that do apply and go from there. Decide which ones are the most important and start whittling down your list of options until you reach the one that will make both you and your pet happy.
Possibly the most important – ensure that the assisted living center provides the level of care you need. Seniors with high levels of care due to Alzheimer’s and other serious diseases need to ensure that they are going to a location that can handle their needs. This is something that is often overlooked, but is very important. Make sure that faculty at the center are trained to provide care for your needs, and if they are not trained, always assume that location is not right for you.
But that’t not all, we also have Botox and collagen injections, not to mention face lifts and nose jobs. Heck, we can even have labiaplasty or laser vaginal rejuvination! We spend billions on creams to senior living facility make us look younger or to hide our wrinkles. We also spend lots and lots of money to remove the hair from everywhere else (which is also called a brazilian) but want to add it to the tops of our heads. And we spend billions more to make sure our erections are better than when we were young.
Live in Community. Being married, being in a long term, committed relationship, and living in community can have positive effects across the lifespan. Everyone needs a support network. You’re no exception.
Embrace Religious or Spiritual Beliefs. Studies indicate the positive value of religion and spirituality today. These same studies suggest that having a core value system, religious or spiritual beliefs can prolong life and, more importantly, promote a happy life across the lifespan. As a result, more than 30 medical schools in the United States now include courses on religion, spirituality and health for medical students. There must be something to it, though studies continue on the effect of religion and spirituality on overall health and wellness.
C. Ask for a list of activities provided that week. Most long term care facilities provide various activities in an effort to keep their residents stimulated. This is important for purposes of maintaining good physical and mental health. See if they have a bulletin board with a get more info list of activities. Do they have outside activities or field trips?
Presenters will discuss the prevalence and demographics of hoarding as well as the latest research findings on hoarding and elders. They will recommend specific intervention and treatment strategies.
